CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™
Certification Education Program


The financial planning industry is one of the fastest growing career fields, and there is strong demand for people with financial planning skills and credentials.

The CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program prepares individuals for success in this demanding but highly rewarding field. The courses in this program cover the areas of expertise that are needed to develop comprehensive, effective financial plans for a variety of individual clients. Those who successfully complete the program are awarded a certificate of completion by  Old Dominion University .  

This is a career enhancing credential that distinguishes those professionals who have received hands-on training in a university-sponsored program. This educational program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.  CFP Board is a national regulatory organization whose mission is to benefit the public by fostering the highest professional standards in personal financial planning.   

Candidates for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Certification Education Program must hold a baccalaureate degree. Applicants include CPA's, CPU's, CLU's, CFSA's, lawyers, stockbrokers, trust officers, and realtors as well as other representatives of the financial services industry. Individuals who meet the minimum educational requirement and are interested in entering the financial planning field are invited to apply.   An applicant must be approved for admission

The program consists of six courses ranging in length from four weeks to twelve weeks.  Course 1 will begin Wednesday July 30, 2008.  We are accepting registrations now.  Registration deadline is July 18, 2008.

            Course I            Introduction to Financial Planning and Risk Management 

            Course II           Income Management & Tax Planning

            Course III          Investment Alternatives: Wealth Accumulation and/or Income Production

            Course IV          Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits

            Course V           Estate Planning

            Course VI          Capstone Course

Cost:  $725 per class or 10% discount when registering for all six courses at once.

Who Should Attend:  Those wishing to sit for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ exam must take this program. Other interested parties are welcome also. Students may begin the program with any course.

Program Cancellations:
The Center reserves the right to substitute instructors, change the days programs meet, and cancel programs due to insufficient enrollments or unforeseen events.
